Nature First
How we aim for sustainable business, living in Snæfellsnes Peninsula.
Our Commitment to Nature, our home
Summit Adventure Guides is a locally run company based in Snæfellsbær. The landscapes you explore with us are the same places where we live, raise our children, and spend our free time hiking and enjoying the outdoors with our families. Our connection to this environment is personal and long lasting.
Protecting nature is part of everyday life here and it shapes how we operate our tours.
Deep Connection to the Land
Many from our team are locals or long term residents with a strong relationship to the land. Many of us grew up in this region and others chose Snæfellsnes as home because of its nature and community.
We guide in the same areas we return to on our days off. That perspective encourages respect, care, and awareness in every tour we run.
We stay on established routes, avoid unnecessary disturbance, and leave each place as we found it.
Our goal is to protect these landscapes for future generations.
Recognized Standards and Certifications
Snæfellsnes is internationally recognized for its commitment to sustainability. The region holds EarthCheck certification and has recently been designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, reflecting long term work in environmental protection, responsible tourism, and community involvement. These certifications are based on measurable standards and continuous improvement, ensuring that nature conservation, local livelihoods, and visitor experiences are carefully balanced.
Respectful Operations in a National Park
We operate with great respect for Snæfellsjökull National Park and maintain close cooperation with park authorities and local stakeholders.
Regulations and guidelines are followed carefully, and our operations are adapted to conditions and seasonal sensitivity.
Some members of the Summit team hold ranger qualifications and participate in local land protection and reforestation projects. Being part of this community means contributing beyond our daily work.
Climate Responsibility
We recognize the environmental impact that comes with operating outdoor adventures and take responsibility for reducing and balancing it.
All fossil fuel use within our operations is monitored. In collaboration with Kolviður, Iceland’s carbon fund, we support local forestry and tree planting projects that offset all fossil fuels burned in our operations.
Part of the Local Community
Summit Adventure Guides is an active member of the local community in Snæfellsbær. Some of our team members also volunteer with Icelandic Search and Rescue, contributing their time and experience to help others in challenging conditions.
Safety, responsibility, and respect for nature are values that guide our work both on our tours and beyond them.
Sharing Responsibility with Our Guests
When you join a Summit tour, you are stepping into a living and sensitive environment.
We invite our guests to be mindful, to respect the land, and to move through nature with care. By traveling responsibly together, we help protect Snæfellsnes so it remains wild, beautiful, and welcoming for generations to come.
